Different types of acnes

There are 4 main types of acne that frequently cause us tension.

Acne, commonly known as pimples, usually appears on

oily or combination skin. If we don't have right methods to completely remove them, they will remain in our faces for more than a week

or a month, leaving us with acne bruises and, in the worst-case scenario, scars.

More detailed information regarding acne types can be found here.

Cyst

Pores in the skin can clog with excess oil and dead skin cells, causing pimples. Bacteria can enter the skin pores and get trapped along with the oil and skin cells. The skin reaction causes swelling deep in the skin’s middle layer (the dermis). This infected, red, swollen lump is an acne cyst.

What causes Cyst?

Cystic acne causes include:

- Age (teenagers are more prone to cystic acne)

- Family history of cystic acne, mostly from the genes of your parents

- Hormone changes during the teenage years and sometimes during menopause, and stress

How to prevent Cyst?

- Wash your face when you wake up, after exercising and sweating, before you go to bed

- Don't touch your hands on the pimples

- Wash you hand before you wash your hand

- Use clean towel or cotton pads to prevent bacteria from attacking your face skin

- Don't sleep at night with make-up
Wash your hair regularly and keep hair (which can be oily) away from your face

- Keep your self in a healthy diet, lower sugary products that you consume

Pustules

Acne papules are solid, inflamed bumps in your skin that are usually cone-shaped (conical). They don’t have a white or yellow pus-filled tip. They’re usually smaller than one centimeter (cm), and they may be the same color as your skin or red, brown or purple.

What causes Pustules?

Acne papules can be caused by a variety of factors, including:

- Your oil (sebaceous) glands produce an excessive amount of oil

- An increase in the number of bacteria on your skin

- An increase in the presence of androgens, a type of sex hormones. They help in the start of puberty and play a role in reproductive health and body development

- Testosterone is the most common androgen

How to prevent Pustules?

- Wash your face when you wake up, after exercising and sweating, before you go to bed

- Don't touch your hands on the pimples

- Wash you hand before you wash your hand

- Use clean towel or cotton pads to prevent bacteria from attacking your face skin

- Don't sleep at night with make-up

Blackhead

Open bumps on the skin that fill with excess oil and dead skin. They look as if dirt has deposited in the bump, but the dark spots are actually caused by an irregular light reflection off the clogged follicle.

What causes Pustules?

- Increased sebum (oily material produced by the sebaceous gland) production.

- Abnormal formation of keratin (the protein that helps make your hair, skin and nails).

- Increased hormones (androgen).

- An increased presence of bacteria on skin that causes acne.

How to prevent Pustules?

Preventing blackheads during normal hormonal changes is difficult, if not impossible. However, certain things can help:

- Wash your face every day with warm water and a gentle facial cleanser.
- Moisturize on a regular basis.
- You don't have to stop wearing makeup, but try to use "noncomedogenic" products and remove your makeup at the end of each day.
- Keep your hands away from your face.

Nodular
(hidden acne)

A blind pimple is a pimple (zit) that forms under your skin. Unlike other types of pimples that form a visible whitehead, blackhead or red bump, blind pimples develop under the surface. Some blind pimples eventually come to a head and “erupt” from underneath your skin’s surface, forming a visible blemish. Others go away without making an appearance.

What causes Pustules?

- Bacteria.

- Dead skin cells.

- Hair.

- Sebum (oil your body produces to keep your skin moist).

If your body makes too much sebum or you don’t clean your skin properly, the oil and skin cells build up under your skin and form pus. It becomes trapped and can’t get to your skin’s surface to leave your body.

How to prevent Pustules?

You may not be able to prevent all blind pimples. But you can reduce your chance of getting them or making them worse by:

- Keeping your skin clean: Wash your face at night, in the morning and after you sweat.

- Leaving them alone: Picking at or squeezing blind pimples can make them worse.

- Using the right skin care products: Only use makeup, lotions and creams that are non-comedogenic, which means they don’t clog pores.
